Minimum Wage Hikes in Arizona, Other States Take Effect in the New Year

With the approval of Proposition 202, Arizona voters said “yes” to an increase in the state’s minimum wage, a question put forth on the November ballot.
Effective January 1, 2007, the minimum wage in the state will increase from $5.15 to to $6.75 per hour for workers who don’t receive tips. The minimum hourly wage for workers who do earn tips will go up from $2.13 to $3.75.
Roughly 145,000 workers in Arizona will receive an immediate pay raise on the first of the year because of the mandated increase.
Arizona is one of six states that passed minimum wage ordinances in the November elections, according to Commerce Clearing House, which recently posted a summary of these legislative changes in its online news library.
The other states that approved minimum wage hikes include:
- Colorado
- Missouri
- Montana
- Nevada; and
- Ohio
