Creating Successful Education Programs

The National Governors’ Association Center for Best Practices and Jobs for the Future released a new policy guide that recommends strategies for states to do their part in preparing elementary- and secondary-school students for success in their higher education and employment pursuits. Among the recommendations: align high school curriculum, graduation and assessments with the expectations of colleges and employers; set statewide performance benchmarks for post-secondary attainment; create a student tracking system; and improve achievement for students in low-performing high schools. The report also provides examples of several successful state education programs.
